Mission Statement

We are here because whenever we encounter war grandmothers must work to insure peace for all children and grandchildren.

We are here to fight against the loss of civil liberties and human rights and the wars that result when democratic principles are broken.

We are here now because we are outraged by the deaths of American troops and Iraqi citizens in a senseless war

We are Granny Peace Brigade Philadelphia.

We welcome all ages, women and men, grandparents or not.

Grannies Climb Scaffolding For Non-Violence

"We're against violence and so are you", said Granny Peace Brigade Philadelphia member, Jean Haskell, talking to Retina Wearing, Project Manager for the Mural Arts Program.  So, on Saturday, October 6th, Haskell and other grannies joined the Mural Arts Program, in West Philadelphia, for a Community Paint Day to paint the first of two murals that are being created as part of the Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia campaign, a 10-year community-based violence prevention initiative with the goal of eliminating all youth homicide in Philadelphia by the year 2016.

"We thought we'd be painting inside," the Grannies acknowledged,"and when we got here we saw that up on the scaffolding was where the painting was happening."
They joined Mural Arts staff and community members, young and old, in bringing to life the anti-violence mural designed by
 Philadelphia artist, Jonathan Laidacker.
